My father’s long-lost POW friend from Bad Schmiedeberg Pat O’Sullivan, of the 2nd/5th Sherwood Foresters (4809795) drew this sketch of a typical Italian POW camp for me in 1999. Pat was captured at Sedjenane on March 2nd 1943, and was initially sent to Camp PG 98 in Sicily. He was subsequently transferred to Camp PG 53 and from there to Stalag 4B (POW Number 228010) and the Bad Schmiedeberg work camp of Stalag 4D. However, as with my father, British records have him located at Stalag 4D/Z..

The note above reads as follows:’If when playing any type of ball game and the ball went between the trip wire and fence, you had to get the guard’s attention before stepping over the trip wire or you could get shot’.’
