132400 7A, Mackenzie, Pte Jack Robb, South African Army, 5353. 'He was a private in the South African Defence Force and was captured by the Italians and then transferred from camp to camp including a few of the Stalags. The last camp he was in was Stalag 344.' Extra details courtesy of his granddaughter, Mrs R Barnes. Red Cross records from Geneva obtained by Mrs Barnes provide the following details: Pte Mackenzie was captured on 21/6/42. He was present at PG 52, Italy on 17/4/43; he was present at PG 106 on 1/5/43. He is next recorded as arriving at Stalag 7A Germany on 24/6/44 'coming from Latterina' (Camp PG 82), which suggests he was at large for several months after the Italian Armistice of 9/43 and before recapture by the Germans. He was transferred from Stalag 7A to Stalag 4B on 4/8/44 and transferred to Stalag 344 on 22/8/44.
