224734 4C Moore, Pte Charles, 4468724. From Howden on Tyne. 16 DLI. Captured 27/2/43, Sedjenane, Tunisia. Previously held at a transit camp Italy from 28/3/43; PG 82 Italy, from 16/6/43. Tranferred to Stalag 4B in 9/43. Tranferred to a Stalag 4DZ workcamp on 11/10/43. Tranferred to the 'Kommando Maltheuern' work camp (now renamed Zaluzi) which was part of the Sudetenländische Treibstoffwerke coal-to-oil synthetic fuel plant at Brux on 2/5/44. Died ('bombensplitter verletzung' is recorded on his death certificate) on 12/5/44 as the result of the large US bombing raid on Brux that day. He was one of over 34 Allied POWs killed on that date, all of whom are now buried in Prague War Cemetery. Pte Alan Jackson (4470078) of 16 DLI, and Pte James Spink (6026790), 1 DLI, were also fatal casualties. One of several further raids took place on 21/7/44 and 14 Allied POWs also re-interred in Prague postwar are listed as having died on that day, including Pte John Gorman (2987658) 1 DLI and Pte Archibald William Burt (5440072), 9 DLI.
