The photographs on this and the following page were kindly copied for me by Jeremy Jones, whose late father L/Bdr Jeff Jones served with the 70th Field Regiment from 1942 in the unit’s Regimental HQ.

The photograph above features the Officers of the 70th Field Regiment and seems to have been taken in Italy late in the war. As identified by his son Chris Craggs, Major Harry Craggs MC is sitting at fourth from the right, front row. Assigned the Army Number 2083227, Lance Bombardier Jeff Jones joined the Territorial Army Royal Engineers. He was posted to 38th Kings Regiment Battalion 352 Coy, Mather Avenue Barracks, Liverpool. Then in 1940 he was transferred to the Royal Artillery and was posted to the 38th Searchlight Regiment, 352 Battery. Finally he was posted to 70th Field Regiment at Wittersham Kent. In September 1942 and served with that unit through to VE Day and beyond. Prior to demob, Jones also played in the 70th Field Regiment dance band, The Seven Zeroes.
