grenade and captured France late May 1940. Stalag 8B/Stalag 344 through to early 1945. At work camp E 126 in 1942. Serious back injury while at work camp in Germany, treated well by a German doctor who he later considered saved his life. See surviving POW cards and 1939 DLI Christmas cards elsewhere on site. Moved to Thornley Colliery, Co Durham in 1946.
